“All I Want for Christmas is You” by Michael Bublé
Call me crazy, but I’m normally not a big fan of Christmas albums for some reason—something I probably shouldn’t be admitting—but I cannot get ENOUGH of Michael Bublé’s album Christmas. I’ve always loved his voice, his music, and his adorably pudgy face, and I can now add his Christmas album to my list of loves because he has a classic Bing Crosby-like feel that just works with the well known carols that comprise his album.
I think my issue with artist’s Christmas albums is that they try to put this trendy spin on classic holiday songs that don’t NEED it. It’s rare that I enjoy a traditional holiday song that has a new twist on it.
But, there are always exceptions: “All I Want for Christmas is You” and “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” are two holiday songs that I’m normally alright with people covering. Of course, Mariah Carey’s original version of “All I Want…” will always be my favorite, and Michael’s version is a close runner-up. As for “Baby…”, I love hearing duets, especially the strong juxtaposition of two radically different voices like this particular duet.
